What’s Involved? Steps to ASNT EBC Accreditation
Accreditation requires a detailed audit of your written practice or certification procedure for compliance to SNT-TC-1A or ANSI/ASNT CP-189.
In addition, the program includes a detailed audit of your certification packages—verifying compliance to your written practice or certification procedure.
Are You Eligible?
EBC accreditation applicants must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:
Have an EBC program that contains a written practice in accordance with SNT-TC-1A or a certification procedure in accordance with CP-189
Have implemented the EBC program
Be able to provide backup documentation for personnel certifications
Gather Your Documentation
To start the process, be sure your designated point of contact has an ASNT ID.
EBC applicants must submit:
A completed and signed application
Payment at time of application
The written practice or certification procedure to be audited
A full list of locations you want to be accredited
A full list of employees NDT certified under your written practice or certification procedure

Download ApplicationWhat to Expect from Your EBC Accreditation Audit
You’re in good hands.
From the outset—and throughout the process—you’ll be working with qualified auditors who are experienced and skilled at conducting external assessments on NDT personnel certification programs. Auditors are independent contractors who meet the stringent requirements defined by the ASNT EBC procedures.
Written Practice or Certification Procedure Desktop Audit
Your qualified auditor will conduct the desktop audit of your written practice, your certification procedure, or both to ensure your certification program addresses the essential elements of SNT-TC-1A or ANSI/ASNT CP-189.
If your program documentation:
Is satisfactory—You’ll move on to the compliance audit.
Is unsatisfactory—Your auditor will issue a nonconformance report.
You have 30 days to respond to the corrective action plan.
You have another 30 days to implement the recommended corrective actions.
Either way, you’ll get a detailed report about your results.
Compliance Audit
Next, your auditor will conduct a compliance audit remotely using a technology platform supported by ASNT Certification Services.
Your auditor will:
Directly compare your certification packages with the requirements outlined in your written practice or certification procedure.
Provide a detailed report of audit findings, including opportunities for improvement and nonconformances
Review the findings with you and work to resolve any conflicts of opinion
Follow up with you as you resolve recommended corrective actions:
You have 30 days to respond to the corrective action plan.
You have another 60 days to implement the recommended corrective actions.
After the Audits
A three-person review panel will verify that all the requirements for accreditation have been satisfied in accordance with the EBC procedures.
Once you have passed the audit process, you’ll get a certificate of accreditation that is good for three years and your organization will be listed on ASNT’s EBC accreditation registry.

Your EBC program accreditation is good for three years and expires at the end of the month noted on your certificate.
ASNT Certification Services will notify you at least 90 days before your registration expiration so that you can initiate your renewal in advance of the deadline.
Renewals follow the same process as your initial accreditation.
In limited circumstances, registration terms are limited to one year and require annual surveillance.

If you don’t pass the initial audit or your accreditation is terminated, revoked, or withdrawn, you can request a re-audit. A fee will apply.

Frequently Asked Questions
Assessors are credentialed individuals possessing ASNT Level III certifications in NDT, experienced and skilled at conducting external assessments on NDT personnel certification programs. Assessors are independent contractors that meet the requirements as defined by the ASNT EBC procedures.
Assessment programs within ASNT are controlled by ASNT Certification Services. This team comprises of technical staff holding ASNT Level III certifications, experienced and skilled at conducting external assessments, with at least 25 years of experience in the engineering world. They also hold experience in various accreditation programs such as ISO 9001, AS 9100, ISO 17021, ISO 17024, and ISO 17025.
The review panel comprises of three individuals who perform an overcheck to verify all the requirements have been satisfied in accordance with the EBC procedures. These individuals are ASNT assessors but are not associated with the company or the specific assessment that was conducted to keep a level of separation and ensure a fair and valid assessment is conducted for all companies that seek such accreditation.
